Sparky Imeson is one of aviation's most respected mountain flying authorities. Born and raised in Jackson, Wyoming, he grew up in the shadow of the Grand Tetons and began flying in 1966 — starting with his father's Piper J-3 Cub and Cessna 205. In 1968, Sparky and his family founded Imeson Aviation, Inc. at the Jackson Hole Airport, offering charter, flight training, air ambulance, aerial application, aerobatic instruction, and aircraft sales.
With more than 20,000 logged flight hours — the majority in small aircraft in mountainous terrain — Sparky identified a critical gap in aviation safety literature and wrote his own books on mountain flying. He is a three-time FAA Flight Instructor of the Year for the Northwest Mountain Region (1974, 1979, 1995), a Designated Pilot Examiner, and an FAA Accident Prevention Counselor since 1971.
Sparky holds an Airline Transport Pilot Certificate with ratings across single and multiengine aircraft, a Gold Seal Flight Instructor Certificate, and international validations in Brazil and Canada. His published works include the Mountain Flying Bible, Taildragger Tactics, and The Shirt Pocket Mountain Flying Guide, among many others.
He is available for mountain flying seminars, public speaking engagements, and aircraft accident consulting.
