Aircraft Corrosion Treatment Products — Protect Your Airframe

Corrosion is a leading cause of structural degradation in general aviation aircraft, particularly in coastal and high-humidity environments like those found across New Zealand. Early detection and correct treatment are critical — the right corrosion treatment product can halt the process, restore surface integrity, and prevent recurrence.

Corrosion Inhibitors and Converters

Corrosion converters chemically react with iron oxide (rust) or aluminium corrosion products to neutralise them and form a stable, paintable surface. Corrosion inhibitors create a protective barrier that prevents moisture and oxygen from reaching bare metal. Both have a role in a comprehensive corrosion management programme.

Penetrating Treatments for Hidden Areas

Some of the most damaging corrosion occurs in areas that are difficult to inspect and treat — inside wing spars, beneath floor panels, within control cable conduits, and in lap joints. Penetrating corrosion inhibitors with low viscosity can wick into these spaces, displacing moisture and depositing a protective film where brushes and sprays can't reach.

Protective Coatings and Sealants

Once corrosion has been treated and the surface prepared, a protective coating seals the area against future attack. Aviation-grade epoxy primers, zinc chromate alternatives, and corrosion-inhibiting sealants provide long-term protection on both interior and exterior surfaces, and are compatible with standard aircraft topcoat systems.
